It's not a merger when one company is bought by another one.

Merger is when two company decide and agree to merge into one.

It doesn't matter whether HP & Compaq's merger end up good or bad, it's irrelevant.

If Microsoft buy a company that my friend own, is that a merger? No, that means Microsoft acquired my friend's company.

I don't know where said "merger", but you're entitled to your opinion :) JBoss makes a bunch of excellent products and I have some confort in the fact the RedHat shares a similar vision. As far as HP and Compaq, how's that working out these days? Remember that awesome thing they came out with last year? :)

It's not a merger. JBoss is a fat and loud insect acquired by RedHat.
