Some Mac users apparently have nothing better to do
Now I love my Macs and OS X as much as the next guy, but I’ll never foget that it is just a freakin’ machine to do work on. I ran accross a post on MacRumors.com stating that the new MacBooks have started to ship. While this is probably cool news for those who placed an order for one back in January (why do people order products that don’t ship for several months?), the rest of us could probably care less. But that’s not the lamest part of this post, it’s link to to people’s photo gallery’s of them unpacking the god damn things! To me, it look strikingly like a MacBook box with packaging and a MacBook inside it! Wow, you’ve opened the box, now what? Seriously guys, a photo gallerly of upacking a Mac is just as lame as a photo gallery of someone unpacking a Dell. It’s still just a fucking laptop! Granted, a very nice one at that. But it’s still lame.

Apple are one of the few companies, perhaps the only company that puts any effort into the physical design of its packaging. It’s part of the whole aesthetic: putting possibly an unreasonable amount of effort into something that will be seen once then thrown away.
Possibly, the photosets are an appreciation of that effort.

Er, I meant one of the few _computer_ companies. A lot of companies put effort into packaging, just not many of the ones that sell computers.

I’ll agree with you that Apple does do a great job in packaging thier products as I’ve unpacked mys share of Apple products. However, the unpacking photo montage is a bit much. That’s all I’m saying

*Ahem* Internet, Ryan forgot to mention that we keep all our original Apple packaging. We just don’t photograph it, because we are usually naked and smeared with marshmallow fluff for Apple Product Opening Ceremonies.

Some bloggers have nothing better to do. They blog about how other people spend their time. I can’t believe how some people just feel that their opinion is so much better than others. After all, it’s just a fucking blog!

*lol* I’d love to see this fluffy ceremony. Or maybe I just buy a Mac, then I can experience it myself.

Dude, it’s obvious you’ve never bought a new Apple Laptop.
In many ways unpackaging a new Apple Laptop shares many aspects with the Japanese Green Tea Ceremony.
For example, you start by checking to make sure you have a brand new never used still in the original protective packaging Xacto blade for your knife, then you place the order.
Next you check the expected arrival date quoted by Apple and make sure you will have dry cleaned and pressed linens available to rest your new Apple Laptop on after you remove it from its packaging.
After you make that critical first cut you wash your hands and don crisp brand new white gloves to continue the unpackaging process.
During the process there will be many pauses to stop and admire the sheer perfection of the wonder that is the package your Apple Laptop was delivered to you in.
After removing all components from inside the box you carefully reassemble it and place it in environmentally controlled storage so you may use it in near pristine condition to pass your new friend along to its new owner.
Someday it may come to pass that you experience the perfection of this experience and enjoy the joy and peace it brings to one’s soul. Until that day you can not truly comprehend it. Try not to allow anger into your heart towards those who in their joy of the experience attempt to share it with others for that pathway leads only to unhappiness and frustration in your life.

Ditto to Scotty’s comment…
Additional note, it doesn’t matter HOW busted your old Mac is… it NEVER leaves your possession… EVER.
Case in point… I still own a FULLY FUNCTIONAL Mac Classic that is capable of surfing the web via 14.4 Modem as well as my Performa 630CD, Performa 6310, Performa 6400, 2 iMacs, an iBook etc…
Gotta love us Mac Users.

[...] I’m a fan of MacRumors.com, but every now and again there’s a new post that make me embarrassed to be a Mac user. Just last year, I had to call out the lameness of “MacBook unpacking photos.” Now, there’s this story of some goof bastard who used his video camera to show everyone the new Apple TV ad, which was recorded off his TV set. Not like we’ll be able to see it on Apple.com at some point anyway. The kicker for me is the number of posts in the forum talking about how “awesome” it was and how “cool” it was to share. My favorite post was from the original poster himself who could provide us with a “a 10mb mpg of the commercial.” Someone needs a better hobby, or a job.
